Ryan Thorngren
Professor Thorngren earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018, during which time he studied topological quantum field theories. After graduation, he took up a postdoctoral position at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Following the year at Weizmann (2018-2019), he joined the Harvard Center of Mathematical Sciences and Applications as a postdoctoral fellow (2019-2022). In 2022 he moved to the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at UC Santa Barbara, and in 2023, he began a very prestigious junior faculty position at L’Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifique (IHES). Dr. Thorngren’s interests are in the overlap of condensed matter physics, quantum field theory, and mathematics. He is specifically recognized for his expertise in topological phases of matter. Outside of physics, Dr. Thorngren enjoys rock climbing and playing music.
