Jason Peta
Professor Petta’s UCLA appointment began in 2022. He received his PhD from Cornell University in 2003, and conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University, where he played a leading role in experiments demonstrating trapping and detection of single electrons, as well as a seminal experiment demonstrating coherent control of two-electron spin states. He became a faculty member in the Physics Department at Princeton University in 2007, where he developed and advanced a silicon-based quantum device architecture for applications in quantum science and engineering, as well as hybrid quantum devices incorporating semiconducting and superconducting elements. Research directions at UCLA will focus on advancing semiconductor spin qubits, their scalability, and long-range quantum interconnects. Professor Petta is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the McMillan Award, the American Association for the Advancement of Science Newcomb Cleveland prize, and the Lee-Osheroff-Richardson prize. Jason lives with his wife, Stacy, in western Malibu. They keep busy raising their four daughters, who are active in a variety of sports. Jason spends his free time chasing surf and especially looks forward to strong south swells in the summer and northwest swells in the winter.
