Ronald and Jeryl Abelmann Award for Excellence in Teaching

In UCLA’s Department of Physics and Astronomy, we recognize that each of the pillars of our mission –  scholarship, education, and public service – are intertwined with and inseparable from one another. Every quarter, we strive to inspire our community’s future leaders in the classroom, and as partners in discovery. In looking back on  the seeds of our own professional journey, we might remember  a singular impactful learning experience. Perhaps it was a challenging course that propelled us through those first steps, in which uniquely talented teachers led us to a deeper understanding and appreciation. In that spirit, we are proud to recognize the best of the best faculty and graduate student instructors of 2022/2023 with the Ronald and Jeryl Abelmann Award for Excellence in Teaching. Pictured are the winners, Professor Troy Carter and Teaching Assistant Rayner Sutardja. Congratulations, Troy and Rayner!
